Helpful in controlling the wooly apple aphid

The woolly apple aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum) is an apple tree pest, which has become much more important in recent years. In many orchards it appears in outbreaks causing extensive losses. Controlling this aphid is not easy.

The colony of this insect is covered with a heavy, wax, wooly coating. Therefore the applied chemical preparations have a limited possibility of getting to the pests’ body surface

Siltac EC becomes very important in the woolly apple aphid control thanks to its two basic characteristics: excellent spreading on surfaces which are difficult to wet (e.g. a woolly apple aphid colony) and effective elimination of harmful insects by physical action.

According to scientific trials a single application of Siltac EC reduces the woolly apple aphid by ca. 65%. If the application is repeated after 2 weeks, the pests’ numbers fall by 90%.

Using Siltac EC mixed with traditional insecticides is very beneficial. As the research reveals, Siltac EC in half the recommended concentration (0.1%) mixed with an insecticide containing acetamiprid (full dosage) reduces the numbers of the pests by 90% after a single application. If re-applied, the efficacy was 100%.

Remember that Siltac EC enhances the performance of traditional insecticides in two ways.

Siltac EC is a very good tool in the woolly apple aphid control strategies. It may be applied on its own, but combined with traditional insecticides its effects are even better.
